2018: Jumia Nigeria Records Growth on Food, Travel Portfolios

Jumia Nigeria on Wednesday said it achieved Return on Investment (RoI) for 2018 business calendar year and the online marketplace said it is ready to double its investment going into year 2019.
It attributed the growth on its Jumia Food and Jumia Travel in the country to unprecedented growth of online emerging market amidst pocket of challenges revolving third part vendors.
Two Managing Directors at Jumia Nigeria made this known during a media forum to review year 2018 business year and share light of portfolios for the coming year.
Speaking at the forum, Managing Director, Jumia Food, Mr Guy Futi, revealed that the firm had to put innovation as a front burner to record a successful business year alongside the existing ready market climate for exquisiteness and reliability,,, which has thus make Nigeria cities more business friendly.

Futi said during the course of the year Jumia Food adopted social media platform chat, whatsApp, to make placement of order easier for its customers among the innovations to engage corporate and retailt target market.

He noted that the company improved customers experience by eliminating issues associated with no network problem, hence, the need for social media platform to give clients other options.

He reckoned that WhatsApp platform was added to give customers the opportunity to chat and place their orders directly. Futi said this also eliminated the amount of data it takes to send messages.

He said that other languages, apart from English, were being added to the app to enable those who do not understand English to click on their preferred language to make order.

Futi said that the outfit was also discussing with its vendors to get cheaper options in terms of food for customers.

Also, Chioma Odumegwu, the Head, Marketing and Vendor Success, said that the company was working toward getting variety of affordable options for customers by partnering with more restaurants.

“Party.jumia.ng has also been initiated for home delivery of all local alcohol order.The future of jumia food and Jumia party is online delivery. We have improved on our third party vendors with exciting business offers which has integrated them as members of Jumia family.”
According to Jumia Travel; speaking through its Managing Director Omolara Adagunodo, business has grown for the flight business by 300% during the course of the business year from the last quarter of 2017.
“We are considering a full bouquet of travel need innovation for going into the new year,” she added.
