2018: FIFA Shuns Nigerian Referees for Male & Female W/Cups

NewswatchNigeria can report that no Nigerian female or male referee would officiate at FIFA World Cups this year.

Just after the June to July Russia 2018, the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup would kick off in France.

It was revealed on Wednesday that no Nigeria female ref appointed among the15 female referees and 30 assistant referees for the August 5 to August 24. France 2018 tournament

The last edition in Papua New Guinea no Nigerian made the FIFA list.

“The selection criteria for the match officials from 21 different countries was based on their experience in their respective association and confederation competitions, as well as their levels of fitness and ability to read the game,” FIFA Wrote on its web.

The female refs also join their male counterparts who were also excluded for the FIFA World Cup in June in Russia.

“Those selected for the tournament in Brittany this summer will also be candidates to officiate at the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019,” it added.

The four official host cities for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup France 2018 are located across Brittany: Concarneau (Stade Guy Piriou), Dinan/Léhon (Stade du Clos Gastel in Léhon), Saint-Malo (Stade de Marville) and Vannes (Stade de la Rabine).

Vannes will host the opening match of the competition on 5 August, as well as the final on 24 August.

Nigeria’s Falconets have been drawn in Group D alongside Haiti, China and Germany.

Recall that the Falconets lost narrowly to the Germans in the final of the competition’s 2010 and 2014 editions.
