Hundreds of unemployed youths were scammed on a job alert in Lagos yesterday.
The scammer used GTB Bank name to hoax the youths.
The vulnerable youths gathered at an address on Victoria Island being the venue giving to them for a customer care job placement interview
Majority of the youths arrived the venue as early as 6;am. They came from various distant nooks and crannies of the state and only for them to be disappointed.
The realized it was a scam when they got to the address and met nobody. They however met only the security guards on duty.
“The job alert has been going viral on the social media for days before yesterday (Wednesday) and friends and loved ones have been sharing it and that was how I got mine,” said one of the youths who spoke with our reporter.
The details in the sms sent out by the scammer to all the applicants which the lady shared with our reporter reads;
“If you have anyone interested in a job at a call centre with GTB, kindly tell them to come tomorrow for an interview. Requirement: BSC. Graduate, Salary: N80,000, Venue; Resource Intermediary Limited, 18a, Elsie Femi Pearse Street, off Adeola Odeku Street Victoria Island, Time: From 9;am, Date 28th September , 2016. Pls come with your Curriculum Vitae.”
For hours they were seen gathered in different groups on the street and it was obvious they were disappointed, pained and dejected having realized it was a scam.
A call put a crossed to the Public Relation Officer of the bank was not responded to before press time to verify if the bank was in anyway under-going any recruitment either directly or indirectly. The sms sent too was not replied.
“I don’t know what these scammer want to gain from this, I have spent N1,200K today just to be here. I borrow it from my aunty because I am still an applicant,” one of the applicants referred to as Joyce said in a mobile video that was recorded at the scene.
