England Manager Gareth Southgate on Wednesday named 23-man World Cup squad with the name of Tammy Abraham missing on the list.
Recall that Abraham had a chance to represent the Super Eagles at the world stage but chose England after getting a cap in an International Friendly.
The player caught the attention of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Amaju Pinnick, after scoring four of Swansea’s seven league goals in the outgone English Premier League season.
Abraham’s father is a close friend of Pinnick who in September 2017 announced that Abraham had switched his allegiance to Nigeria which the player denied through a statement the same day. He reaffirmed his availability for England.
On 2 November 2017, he was one of three uncapped players called up to the senior England team by manager, Gareth Southgate for friendlies against Germany and Brazil. He made his debut against the former on 10 November, starting in a 0–0 draw at Wembley Stadium.
