Thousands of football fans in Lagos watched the English Premier League (EPL) matches played yesterday in an uncommon way at the fun-filled arenas sponsored by Guinness in the state.
The brewing company brought the matches closer to the people through an initiative that saw viewing centres opened at four strategic locations for fans to watch the matches.
The matches were watched with touch of entertainment from top notch comedians and Supersport live studio analysis at the viewing centre in Ajah.
Man united and Middlesbrough game which produced four goals thriller with the Jose Mourinho side net three times before the final whistle.
Tottenham versus Southampton match was exciting and it ended by 2-1 in favour of the host side.
Moses Prais-aAnalysts from Super Sport, Uche Onwudiwe, Marketing Manager, Guinness Foreign Extra Stout, Emmanuel Nwachukwu Football Blogger, Segun Agbede Analyst from Super Sport were among the fans at the Ajah viewing centres. The stout company dubbed the special viewing day experience ‘Matchday Made of black’ and the events held simultaneously across four locations in Lagos- Abule Egba, Ikorodu, Surulere and Ajah had Guinness screen the 3 EPL matches of the day to its teeming consumers and football lovers.
“There are two things you can be sure will always bring Nigerians together- Football and their favourite Guinness,” said Kunle Faloye, Senior Brand Manager, Guinness. “What better way to show this than an infusion of Guinness and Football.”
“As a brand,” he continued, “we celebrate those who are made of black- those who continually carve their own path without inhibitions. Football is one of the media where our consumers get rid of all inhibitions and as a brand; we cannot but stay true to their passion”.
As is reminiscent of Guinness, the audience was also treated to beautiful music by Small Doctor, Jaywon, Illbliss and Magnito even as they enjoyed the free internet provided by Don Jazzy’s internet company-Flobyt, one of the event partners.
Some of the fans who predicted the star match of the day(Man City versus Liverpool) which ended 1-11, correctly went home with phones, earpieces and other accessories. The Matchday Made of Black train heads to other cities in Nigeria making its second stop at Owerri on the 1st of April before proceeding to Enugu, Benin and Ibadan.
