Police arrest 14-year-old boy for joking about bomb on plane

A 14-year-old boy was on Monday arrested by the police for joking about a bomb in his jacket on a plane at Bangkok’s main airport.

He was asked for his ticket as he boarded a domestic flight bound for the Northern city of Chiang Rai.

“The passenger, who was carrying bags in both hands, asked the flight attendant to take the ticket from his jacket pocket.

“Be careful.

“I have a bomb,” the accused was quoted as saying by the police spokesman Krisana Pattanacharoen.

According to an official at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport, the accused comment prompted the cabin crew to evacuate the passengers.

The police said that the security officers after carrying out a search on the plane found no explosives.

The police said that the accused might be jailed.

“He was charged with causing panic on an aircraft with false information, which can carry three to five years in prison.

“As a minor, he may receive a more lenient sentence if convicted,’’ Krisana said.
