Passersby and Lagos residents could not hide how happy they were shortly after Lagos Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode opened the second pedestrian bridge at Ojota.
The bridge momentarily turned to a new spot for snapping selfies, group pictures, unique shot and pep talks spot by passersby who witnessed the occasion on Friday.
The Governor, during the official opening said, he will not relent in his effort to make the state a mega city that all its residents will be proud of.
According to Ambode the bridge became a necessity following the upsurge in the use of the existing one at Ojota.
In his words, “we thought it was necessary to construct another footbridge here Ojota after we blocked the expressway with railings preventing people from crossing the highway. It was important to do that to reduce the number of lives lost to accidents on the expressway and also provide another alternative to the existing bridge at Ojota.”
“We also had to reduce the number of travel time for motorists and how people move around the axis. This bridge is made of galvanized steel and is the best in Sub Saharan Africa. The new Ojota pedestrian bridge is a demonstration of our commitment to the welfare and safety of our people,” he added.
He further thanked residents and the community leaders for the continuous support for good governance in the State.
In a reaction, the Sole Administrator of Kosofe Local Government, Princess Adejumoke Animawun, said the new pedestrian bridge is a sign of further developmental projects coming to the axis.
Meanwhile after the bridge was opened for public use, residents, commuters, onlookers as well as other passerby welcomed the news with loud cheers. They thronged the bridge moments after Governor Ambode had walked the length of the bridge and descended.
