The hope of getting a call-up into the senior national team as the country prepares for the 2018 world cup seams bleak for the Nigerian Professional League Players.
Super Eagles Manager-Gernot Rohr- yesterday revealed that he was not comfortable with the age factor of the Nigerian home based players, citing it as the reason why they seldom get call up to the national team.
” There is an existing problem with Nigeria based players. We cannot tell their real age,”he noted
Though Rohr who started by including one home based player in his squad, failed to name any of them in the 3-1 win match against Algeria and the recent friendly against Senegal in London.
Goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa was the only home based player to have found favour in the Franco-German coach, but even at that, he had been sidelined in most of the matches. The former Gabon and Burkina Faso coach however added that it does not mean the door has been shut on best players in the league
” The door is always open for the best players. The Nigeria League players must prove themselves with the CHAN team first, because at the moment we have a winning team, so the home based players must prove they deserve a place in the team”, Rohr said in an interview on radio.
