Cleric urges Christian youths to stop watching western movies

Rev. Luke Shehu, President, Arewa Christian and Indigenous Pastors’ Association (ACIPA), Jos, has urged Christian youths to stop watching western movies that would not add value to their lives.

Shehu made this call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abuja.

He said that the association was planning to go into movie production to help add value to upcoming Christian youths in the country.

He said that movie was to project the image, culture and heritage of the youths in the north instead of watching western movies that would not promote their identities and values as Christians.

According to the cleric, the youths need to change their mind set from the western movies that can corrupt their minds.

“Most of these western movies are full of immoral acts that would not add anything good to their lives.

“We hope to go into Christian movie production and we hope this will help add value to our growing youths who have been hot taste for western movies.

“We want them to stop watching movies that does not add value and is full of immoralities and even some Nigerian movies do not add Christian values to our youths.

“We hope to have a film that will project the image, the culture and the heritage of these tribal Christians,’’ he said.

Shehu explained that in view of the movie production, the association came up with an idea to nominate some traditional rulers as grand patrons of ACIPA.

He said that the patrons were to serve as advisers that could be consulted, particularly in areas where there were conflicts of interest.

The grand patrons nominated were: Tor Tiv of the Tiv people, HRM James Ayatse, the Ochi Idoma, Rev. Tony Ogah and the Aku Wuka of Wukari, HRM Shekarau Angyu.

“We do not want to go into the error of making mistake of taking decisions that will not have bearing on the people or that will lead to digression on our aims and objectives.

“We have their blessings, we have their supports, we have keyed into the vision in view of the challenges peculiar to the Christians in the north and the need for unity in the north.

“We feel these are traditional rulers, who are Christians would have influence over the domain and know the challenges of the people and can give us advice in our decision-making,’’ Shehu said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the ACIPA is a Northern based Christian organisation with focus on networking and creating awareness for peace among northern Christians.
