Hope Democratic Party (HDP) has described religious and ethnic intolerance as major cankerworm destroying Nigeria and its politics.
Chief Ambrose Owuru, the National Chairman and ex-Presidential candidate of the party, made the remark in a statement on Friday in Abuja.
Owuru said Nigerians and the world at large should embrace the doctrine of “Chrislims’’ as part of democratic culture and practice of the teaching of good visionary and revolutionary leadership based on love and fear of God.
Chrislim is a modern-day attempt to blend the teachings and practices of Christianity and Islam.
He added that “we condemn the rising spate of religious and ethnic intolerance in the land, which is fast eroding all efforts at building national consciousness and the fight against corruption which we think should be fought with more welfarist programmes and policies.
“We believe that religious intolerance is now the major cankerworm that is destroying the fabric of our nation and our body polity, which should be the major fight today in Nigeria, Africa and the world at large.”
The chairman said HDP intended to promote religious tolerance and eradicate
poverty through the institution of modern day unifying doctrine of “Chrislims’’
as part of programme for a new order.
He noted that “we want a new Nigeria devoid of hate and religious intolerance.
“This thoughtful and enchanting programme will be unveiled to Nigerians and the world at large soonest.’’
Owuru said the party would promote the total removal of the dividing line between practicing Christians and Muslims under one God as apostles of the Chrislims.
