The ball hits Otamendi on the chest and flies into the City net. It’s a clear own-goal, right on the stroke of half time. David Wagner can’t contain his excitement, this is going to make for a very intriguing second half.
They’re working so hard as a team, now they’ve really got something to hold on to which will give them that extra 10-15 per cent.
Half-time verdict
That goal right on the stroke of half time has City staring at the possibility of their incredible run coming to an end.
You get the feeling that this is not going to be City’s day, with a home side fighting for everything, and getting that bit of luck as a corner deflected in off Otamendi.
Until that point, this game had shades of the FA Cup game here last season, with Huddersfield happy to let City have all the possession and not even make a challenge until they are two-thirds of the way up the field – that ended goalless.
That ploy has severely squeezed the space in which Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva operate, and means the onus is on Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane to find space in behind the defence.
But the Blues’ ploy of slinging the ball diagonally from deep has not worked out.
They have reverted to quick one-twos, which has been the pattern of the season so far – but too often Sterling or Sane have not been on the same wavelength as the passer.
The Terriers’ success in restricting chances has saw grow in confidence – they have not lacked belief that they can get something out of the game, and that goal backs up that belief.
City can take comfort from the fact that David Silva has started to create chances – with three sumptuous passes in the latter stages of the half.
The third of those was a delightful flick to free Aguero – he should have done better with his shot, but when the keeper parried it as far as Sterling, his shot was poor with a clear sight of the goal.
