The Australian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr Paul Lehmann, on Tuesday disclosed that about 339 Nigerians had benefited from his government’s scholarship awards programme between 2010 and 2017.
Lehmann said that the beneficiaries were awarded scholarships for various Masters and short courses in different Australian universities and higher educational institutions.
The High Commissioner said that there was a “substantial increase’’ in the number of Nigerians that benefited from his government’s scholarship awards last year.
“The Australian Government offers scholarships to non-nationals under its Australia Awards Programme.
“In 2017 alone, Eight Nigerians were awarded Masters’ Scholarships and 22studied short-term courses.
“In total, about 339 Nigerians had benefited from the Australia Awards Programme between 2010 and 2017,’’ he said.
Lehmann said that a new set of 18 Nigerians had recently resumed their studies in various Australian universities under the Australia Scholarship Awards Programme.
According to him, the Australia Scholarships Award Programme is the Australian Government’s flagship programme in Africa.
The High Commissioner, who said that most of the applications for the scholarships were from Nigeria, added that the programme would continue to “bring tangible benefits’’ to Nigeria.
