There was panic at the Iga Iduganran, Lagos Island palace of the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu , following a fire out break at a section of the palace.
As at time of writing this report, details of its cause could not be ascertained. But Vanguard learned that it started at about 1.25 pm.
From information gotten smoke was sighted billowing from the roof of a section of the palace where the monarch’s traditional regalia were stored.
Oba Akiolu An alarm which alerted palace guards was raised , in the process of which efforts were made to contain the fire from spreading to other sections.
Everyone in the palace were reportedly conducted to safer places until the arrival of fire men. The fire was said to have destroyed clothing materials, beads among other traditional regalia.
Contacted, South West spokesman for the National Emergency Management Agency , Ibrahim Farinloye, described the incident as a minor one.
He said officials of the Federal and State Fire services brought the situation under control immediately they arrived the palace . “ The fire was contained within few minutes. There was no injury or casualty recorded”, Farinloye said.
