Come and Fight for Shirt, Alloy Agu Tells Enyeama

Enyeama

Super Eagles Goalkeeper Trainer, Alloy Agu on Monday confirmed that Vincent Enyeama will return to the national senior team now that he is back to full fitness and action with his club side.

Speaking in an interview on Brilla Fm, the former goalkeeper explained that the national team handlers have reached out to the 35-year-old who announced his retirement in 2015 to come and compete with the other goal keepers.

The decision to give Enyeama and other eligible players’ equal and unhindered opportunity to prove their prowess according Agu, was essential as the Super Eagles Manager is determined to get the best 23 players to represent Nigeria at the World Cup in Russia.

He further explained that there is no automatic shirt for Eyeanma when he returns stating that other goalkeepers who have so far proved their mantled under Coach Gernor Rohr are good in their own right.

He said, ‘It’s important for us to know that Nigerians want the best and safest hands at the world cup. We want to look around and give everybody the opportunity. It is good that Vincent has returned to fitness and is back with his club.

‘We’ve been in touch with him. The Coach has spoken with him too but, Vincent must fight for his place. It will not be an automatic place for him or any other goalkeeper.  I have told Ikechukwu Ezenwa, Dele Alampasu, Daniel Akpeyi, and others to match up as Vincent is being wooed back.”

There are however no indications whether Enyeama who has earned over a century of international caps will be invited for the last qualifier match the Super Eagles has with Algeria in November 10 and for the high profile friendly match the Nigeria Football Federation(NFF) has secured with Argentina which will be played in Russia, November 14.

Alloy Agu who described the high profile friendly match as a right step toward preparing for the 2018 World Cup explained that the two matches will be a test on who will eventually be the number one goalkeeper for the national team in Russia.

The goalkeeper trainer said the national team handlers are expecting a favourable draw of the world cup in the first week December.
