Emir of Zazzau and the Chairman of Zazzau Emirate Council, Alhaji Shehu Idris has applauded Airtel Nigeria for its unrelenting support to primary education in the country.
Speaking during a visit of the Airtel Team to the Emir at his palace after the company’s commissioning of the newly built and adopted Yahaya Hamza Primary School in Zaria, the Emir said Airtel has left an indelible mark in the ancient city with the reconstruction.
“What Airtel Nigeria has done will make a good history. The company will never be forgotten by members of the community of Zaria City. We use to send our students abroad to learn something with great expectation but the narrative has continued to change in recent time. We promise you that we will make sure that all the facilities provided by Airtel in the school will be put into proper use”, he said.
Mr. Segun Ogunsanya, CEO/MD of Airtel Nigeria commended the effort and commitment of the monarch, describing him as a royal father that has led by example.
“We are happy to be welcomed by the Emir and members of Zazzau Emirate Council. We decided to visit you today to appreciate you for your support towards education and national unity. In our differences lies our strength and we must all love, respect and live together in peace for the betterment of our nation.”
Mr. Ogunsanya also added the company will continue to work together with every stakeholder, including traditional rulers to build a nation were peace, love and respect abound.
Prior to the visit, Airtel had commissioned one of its newly adopted schools in the State, Yahaya Hamza Primary school, in the presence of the Emir and the Governor of the State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai.
Yahaya Hamza primary school will now join five other Airtel adopted primary schools spread across Nigeria, namely Oremeji Primary School II, Ajegunle, Lagos; St. John’s Primary School, Oke-Agbo, Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun;
Community Primary School, Amumara, Imo; Iyeru Okin Primary School, Ilara-Mokin, Kwara and Presbyterian Primary School, Ediba, Cross River State.
Alhaji Shehu Idris is the 18th Fulani Emir of Zazzau and the Chairman of Zazzau Emirate Council. He ascended the throne on February 8, 1975 following the demise of Alhaji Muhammadu Aminu, the 17th Emir of Zazzau.
Idris was born to the family of Malam Idrisu Auta who was sometimes called Auta Sambo and Hajiya Aminatu. Idrisu Auta’s father was Sarkin Zazzau Muhammadu Sambo who reigned from 1879 to 1888 and Auta’s grandfather was Sarkin Zazzau Abdulkarimi who reigned from 1834 – 1846.
