Football: Edo Govt. to Increase Players’ Away Match Winning Bonus

To ensure that Bendel Insurance FC of Benin regained promotion to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), the Edo Government has promised an increase in their away match winning bonuses.

The Edo Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, made the assertion on Wednesday in Benin at the club’s training session ahead of their match with Lagos-based Ikorodu United at a yet to be fixed date.

Shaibu said the government was not pleased with the way insurance won home matches and lose away encounters in the first round of the Nigeria National League (NNL).

He said that as ambassadors of the state, they should not disappoint the people but rather, put in more efforts to win all their matches.

The deputy governor further addressed fans and players perception that referees were biased in officiating during the club’s away matches.

He said that government would record away matches of the team to identify irregularities and take action where necessary.

He, however, warned the fans and players to desist from attitudes that would attract sanctions to the club.
