Nigeria could witness the birth of a national youths’ football cup tourney, targeted at the grassroots talent discovery, in the honour of Oni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has plans were said to be underway.
As gathered over the weekend Oba Ogunwusi is interested in grassroots football and the fortune of the Nigerian youths in the round leather game and as such Youth Sport Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) said preparations have kick started for the country to witness the birth of a grassroots football cup tournament in the name of the youths loving king.
In the bid to advance plans on the football initiative, Oba Adewusi would today be hosting the National Executive of Youths Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) led by its President Mallam, Nasir Gawuna as Newswatnigeria reliably gathered.

Fallouts from the YSFON courtesy call and deliberation from the today’s meeting would provide background for substantive name and modalities for the new grassroots football cup tournament and other plans in the bid to make it youth focused and sustainable.

In recent pasts there have been many grassroots football initiatives in the name of traditional rulers, ex-internationals, philanthropists and Non-Government Organisations (NGO) but this couldn’t be sustained due to laid-back commitment from sponsors and organisers.

But, according to inside source, Oba Enitan would be discussing what has been jeopardising the discovery of football talents at the grassroots with the YSFON executives with the view of making the proposed new national grassroots cup tournament in the name of the king goal oriented and contributory to the society at large.

YSFON reckons that there is no first-class King from the southwest region of the country that is sponsoring or co-sponsoring a grassroots football tournament, however, there have been call for supports from all quarters and stakeholders in the football community to make this fruition.
YSFON was established in the year 2000 and has been saddled to see to the growth of Nigerian youths in various grassroots sports.
