Lectures, Students Send off from LASPOTECH Campus

Lagos State Polytechnic had to be shut down on Tuesday over the undeing differences between the management of the institution and its lecturers.

The management in a statement said lecturers and student have been advised to stay away from the campus for the stretch of a whole week in the bid to douse tension and possibly allow the state government time to fix issues in the institution.

 As garthered for the period of the  seven days recess, no person will be allowed into any of the campuses of the polytechnic as staff and students have been advised to stay away at least 200 meters radius to the polytechnic

“Staff and students are therefore advised to stay away at least 200 meters radius to any of the polytechnic campuses. Further directives will be duly communicated,” the statement reads.

However, the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic, Lagos State Polytechnic branch issued another statement suggesting the Rector was planning to carry out rituals within the campuses of the institution during this period.

On a contrary, the union’s General Secretary, Mr. Olayinka Uthman noted that the close down was for another reason “the Rector intends to carry out rituals as usual on our campuses and do not want such barbaric act exposed to staff and students”. He went on to declare the message as “null and void”.

However, the President of the Students’ Union Government (SUG), Comrade Lawal Dauda described the situation as “highly unbearable” and called on the Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode to save the institution.
