- Messi out for three weeks after suffering fracture in right arm
- Messi will miss a Clasico for the first time in 11 years
Injured Barcelona star, Lionel Messi will begin his recovery work on Monday after a radius bone fracture in his right arm against Sevilla on Saturday night.
The Barcelona star spent Sunday at home with his family and still felt severe pain in the affected area.
Messi doesn’t want to rush his return and his main objective now is to recover as well as possible from the fracture and he will evaluate, along with the club’s medical department, when the best time is to return.
Initially, the estimated downtime is three weeks, although everything will be dependent on his recovery.
In the coming days, he will undergo further tests to determine if he faces a longer spell on the sidelines.
Under the current guidelines, Messi could make his comeback on Sunday, November 11 against Real Betis and is also aware that if everything goes very well, he could even play against Inter on November 6.
That would be a risky move in a game of such magnitude and away from home, although it certainly hasn’t been ruled out.
It could also be the case that the club opt to be conservative and not risk their captain against Betis, instead opting to hold him back and ensure he is in prime condition for the clash with Atletico Madrid after the international break.
The Argentine’s previous long term injury came in 2015 and he was also very clear then that his priority was to recover as quickly and fully as possible.
Even though there was a Clasico scheduled for near the end of his recovery time, he wasn’t obsessed with ensuring he got back in time.
In fact, he didn’t start that game and only came on in the closing stages with a 3-0 result already decided.
