The Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) on Friday unveiled a portal of Student Academic Level Registration, tagged: ”LevelReg” to build human capacity.
Mr Jide Awe, the Chairman, Conferences Committee of NCS, disclosed this in a statement in Lagos.
According to him, NCS created the platform to help in building the human capital for the digital economy, in particular technological capacity.
He said that registered computer science students and other related courses could now benefit from NCS’s scholarships, self development, professional networking and career development opportunities.
“Though several promising capacity building initiatives exist, there is a pressing need to significantly increase impact on development.
“With tech students in mind, Student Academic Level Registration (LevelReg) is a portal designed to register students of Computer Science and related courses in every academic session including postgraduate and research students.
“Authenticate students’ current academic to enable them enjoy benefits provided for students by the Nigeria Computer Society
“Track the progression of students in schools and in their academic pursuits,” he said.
Awe said that the portal was all about empowerment and support for the next generation.
He added that the Nigerian tech sector must simply be manpowered to compete globally to bridge the digital divide and transform Nigeria into an information technology capable nation.
The committee chairman said that not only would it enable students to access facilities to boost their academic pursuits, it would also help in building statistics on tech students in Nigeria.
He said that this could not be underestimated for planning.
“For NCS, it is about creating an environment that supports and encourages students as they develop their tech careers.
“The long term vision is to build solid human capital in tech to meet the needs and requirements of the ever changing digital economy.
“As society becomes more ICT enabled, we should promote and advance digital knowledge, creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship. Progress and competitiveness will not come from consumption.
“Nigeria will thrive and benefit through students in tech who develop the ability to create, produce, innovate and add value. The people in the tech sector will need to be a source of strength and opportunity.
“The nation needs to know and monitor the national human capacities in tech and also provide opportunities for students in tech to build capacity, live their dreams and change the world,” he said.
