Nigeria: Buhari Reappoints Umar Danbatta to Pilot Telecoms for Second Term

NIGERIA: President Muhammadu Buhari has reappointed Professor Umar Danbatta has the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

On Friday, the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy and the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) confirmed the reappointment of the erudite scholar in a statement made available and posted online.

According to the statement which has since gained the attentions of stakeholders in the sector, the reappointment was based on the recommendation of the Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim (Pantami), in tandem to the Nigerian Communications Act, 2003.

And www.newswatchnigeria.com can confirmed that congratulatory messages have already been tripping in for the well loved telecoms chief who first assumed the office in 2015.

The stakeholders who described Danbatta as Erudite Engineer, Astute Administrator, Philanthropist, and an Outstanding Nation Builder per Excellence were confident that Danbatta’s reappointment will consolidate his first tenure in office in line with the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy, and President Muhammadu Buhari‘s drive for a digital Nigeria.

Born in Danbatta Local Government Council of Kano State, Prof. Danbatta obtained his BEng, MSc degrees from the Technical University of Wroclaw in Poland and his PhD from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST) UK respectively.

The Distinguished Executive Vice-Chairman served as a lecturer in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Technology of Bayero University Kano for 32 years, where he taught courses in telecommunications engineering and electronics and held academic positions of Dean of the Faculty and Head of Department at different times.

After his appointment as the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC)) in August 2015, he has tremendously transformed the Telecom Sector in the areas of Staff Welfare, Infrastructural Development, Consumer’s Empowerment and Satisfaction, Job Creation, Standard Information,

and Communication Technology Revolution, Research, Rebranding of the Telecom Sector, Cordial Relationship with Stakeholders, Increase in Active Mobile Broadband Penetration, Efficient Monitoring and Value Driven usage for the provision of Different Types of Services. NCC under Professor Danbatta is a recipient of several awards and recognitions both local and internationally.

While wishing Professor Danbatta the best, the Honourable Minister directs the EVC (Danbatta) to significantly improve on the overall performance of the Commission as well as ensure that adequate mechanisms are put in place to facilitate the implementation of all policies of Federal Government through the Ministry.

According to the Spokesperson to Minister, Uwa Suleiman (Mrs). “Furthermore, the Honourable Minister enjoined him to ensure that the interest of telecommunication consumers, Nigerians and investors are adequately protected.”
