Nigeria Technology Reporters Elect New Executive Members

NITRAThe noble body for technology reportage in Nigeria- Nigeria Information Technology Reporters’ Association (NITRA) Friday elected six executive members that will pilot the group affairs for the next two years.

After overseeing the maiden election, the Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ-Lagos Chapter) swore in Emma Okoni, who headed NITRA interim executives since 2015 – as the returned elected Chairman and six others into various capacities.

The election saw Stan Okenwa bowed for Mr. Chike Onwuegbuchi-(reports for Nigeriacommunicationsweek.com.ng) as the new vice Chairman after winning with the majority votes for the post.

The office of Treasurer went to Florence Onuegbu(Reports for News Agency of Nigeria), while Nwankwo Chidiebere(e-business life) was elected Financial Secretary.

Technology reporter for Hallmark Newspaper-Justus Adejumoh emerged the Secretary General and Nahimah Ajikanle Nurudeen as Assistant Secretary General. She reports for an online platform.

Nigeria has recorded substantive reportage of Technology since the birth of the association in 2014, capturing regulatory, investors and pressure group and other stakeholders view objectively and as such gained recognition and recourse to hold stakeholders forum on quarterly basis for the industry.

In his acceptance speech, NITRA Chairman, Okonji reckoned the elected executives are up to the task ahead was upbeat they will not relent to mirror the Nigeria technology industry to the world and also journalists that have been reporting the industry.

“I want to assure the association of a transparent and vibrant leadership that will take all NITRA members along. On behalf of my team, I appreciate your trust on us. We will do our best to make NITRA the best it should be. We will not betray the trust you gave for your work and welfare of members,” he said.

Chairman of the Lagos Chapter, Deji Olumoye, who coordinated from the accreditation to the proper voting which started about 1pm before ensured that the 24 members were accredited with the same number voted.

“I want the new leadership to fulfill its promise to take NITRA to a greater height. And Be familiar with the NUJ activities,” he said.

The Chairman of the electoral Committee was Isaiah Onwuanumba of (IT News) and its members which include Lucas Ajanaku, Louisa Olaniyan, Yemi Adepetu and Rommy Imah- all are bonafide members of the association and senior technology reporters in various national dailies and credible online platforms, but did not vote.

Some of the practitioners’ bodies in technology industry and stakeholders that have identified with the association since 2014 include Nigerian Communications (NCC), Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON); Association of Licensed Telecoms Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), Electronic Providers Association of Nigeria (E-PPAN), Nigeria Internet Group (NIG) and many others.

NITRA was inaugurated in 2014 with the aim of engendering industry growth through collaboration with industry stakeholders on different fronts in and outside the country.
