Nigeria is embracing further improved regulatory and best policy formulation practices as the country’s representatives to the on-going Mobile World congress are meeting with world leaders in Information Communication Technology administration and regulations.
The Honourable Minister of Communication, Adebayo Shittu and the Executive Vice chairman, Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) led the Nigeria representatives to the world stage annual conference holding in Barcelona in Spain.
The world leaders and panelists at the ongoing Mobile World Congress (MWC) are engaging Nigeria on regulatory policy that will further impress Foreign Direct Investment into the country with the view to grow the domestic Information Communication sector of the country.
One of the panel sessions today at the Mobile World Congress has the theme: Creating incentive for Investment in ICT and Nigeria Communications Commission’s Role and Nigeria was on the spot light with discussion on improved investors’ friendly environment. Nigeria is seeking to become investors’ destination hub in Africa.
According to the Director, Public Affairs; Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) Ojobo who shared picture news from the Mobile World Congress, Nigeria had a session with the new chairman of the U.S. Federal Communications Commission under President Donald Trump, Ajit Pai among the world leaders on what he described as “best practices insight”
Worthy to note that Ajit Pai, 44, has been keeping under wraps strategy to revise or reverse the Obama administration’s “net neutrality” rules, and has been reputed with commitment to ensuring an open internet policy among member nations.
Ajit Pai is a republican lawyer who has served as FC policy commissioner since 2012. He strongly opposed former Democratic President Barack Obama administration’s 2015 net neutrality rules that reclassified broadband providers and treated them like a public utility.
“I believe, as I think most Americans do, in a free and open internet and the only question is what regulatory framework best secures that,” Pai said in an interview in his FCC office,
In December Pai vowed to take a “weedwacker” to unneeded rules and has not backed away from his prior criticism of net neutrality, when he again said net neutrality’s “days are numbered.”
It is however believed that Pai is sharing is new views which Ojobo described as ‘Best Practices” in his post- with the over 800 operators and over 250 companies at the world conference.
