PREVIEW

Liverpool begin a six-week period – starting against Tottenham this afternoon – which could define Jurgen Klopp’s tenure at Anfield.

This is Liverpool’s biggest league game since 2014, and the mood is one of pure nerves, says our man at Anfield, Gerard Brand.

“The narrative from both Liverpool and City camps in recent weeks has been: ‘If we don’t win it, fine, what more could we have done?’ – such is the neck-and-neck nature of this title race and the relentless quality on show.

A calming tactic? Most probably. But despite the picture-perfect surroundings, nobody is calm around Anfield this afternoon.”

Mauricio Pochettino will be envious of Klopp’s options because he has a string of injury issues. Eric Dier

was forced to withdraw from the England squad last week after picking up a groin injury in the 5-0 win over Czech Republic, while Harry Winks is continuing on-field rehabilitation after a groin injury.

Right-back Serge Aurier will be assessed ahead of the game after sustaining a hamstring strain while on international duty with the Ivory Coast.
