Some schools in Anambra state in Nigeria were forced to close early on Monday over rummour on Monkeypox in the state capital.
As the speculation of the Monkeypox spread in Umuahia, parents were seen(at about 12:00 noon rushed to various schools and hurriedly picked their children and wards home out of fear.
While some besieged the schools which locked their entrance gates and refused to release the children to their parents or wards and by 2 p.m., all schools remained closed and vacated.
Some of the parents who were worried said they don’t know anything about the substance the soldiers were reportedly injecting on school children while some heard the vaccination was immune Monketpox- avirus that is still strange to them.
According to what the parents heard, the soldiers have started applying the vaccination from Ihiala, Nnewi, even Awada, a suburb of Onitsha of Onitsha and were close to Umuahia..
However, it was learnt that the 82 Division of the Nigeria Army organised medical out-reach in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State as part of their corporate social responsibility, a similar exercise which had taken place in some other states of South East zone.
Reacting to the development, Anambra State Government through the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Solo Chukwudebelu, confirmed the military medical out-reach in Ozubulu, but added that there was no cause for alarm as according to him, no body had died as a result of the out-reach.
