Team Muller Beats Optiweb in NCC Tennis League Cup

Team Muller over the weekend won Team Optiweb in the group stage match actions played in the ongoing Nigeria Communications Commission Tennis League Cup, at the National Stadium, Surulere in Lagos.

Team Muller was through to the second round of the group stage after a total of seven games were played on Saturday and Sunday in the men’s single, ladies single, double and mixed double.

20 year old Emmanuel Idoko (Team Muller) piped Emma Lakakah (Team Optiweb) 6-4, 6-3 in the first men’s single that opened the Saturday match day and Joesph Ime(Team Muller) defeated Uche Oapraoji 6-3, 64 in the match that followed.

Team Muller proved their mettle in the third(Ladies Single) and fourth matches(Men’s double) which saw them finished won by 2-6, 64, 10-4 and 6-2, 2-6, 10-8 respectively.

Three games that lasted over seven hours were played on Sunday, with team Optiweb opening the day by a 2-6, 6-4,10-4 win in the men single.

But Team Muller came back with their winning strike through Mohammad Mohammad remarkable 6-2, 2-6, 10-8 win over Emma Idoko in the second men’s single match of the day.

And in the mixed double the host team (Team Muller) also won to bring the overall total score 5-2.

www.newswatchnigeria.com can report that the sponsor (NCC) of this international championship has placed a consolidated cash prize of  N23m for champions of this championship.

The 12 teams in this year’s competition have logistics support of N500,000 each. The winning team will get N7m, the runner-up N5m, the third place N3m and the fourth place N2m.

The League as usual feature two groups – Blue and White – with the top two finishers emerging to play semifinals and on to the finals.

The Blue Group consists of 2015 champions, Team Civil Defence (Abuja); Team Kalotari (Port Harcourt); Team Muller (Lagos), Team Optiweb (Ilorin); Team VGC Lions (Lagos) and the Qualifier team from the playoffs.

The White Group will feature defending champions, Team Offikwu (Kaduna); Team Ndoma-Egba; Team Goshen (Ilorin); Team CBN Futures (Lagos); Team Oyetade (Ekiti) and Team Tech Vibe (Jos).
