U.S., S/Arabia, Russia, Mauritius, Ghana, Nigeria Tough in Cybersecurity, says ITU

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) said measures to prevent cybercrime are best in the United States.

It ranked Saudi Arabia third, Russia fifth and Turkey 11th in its latest assessment of countries’ precautions.

It urged countries to be more proactive to prevent cybercrime, as millions of dollars are being lost to the menace, according to a report by a world body agency on Tuesday.

The report estimated that the IT and telecom sector has suffered up to six trillion dollars in damage in 2021 so far.

International Telecommunication Union urged countries to improve their cybersecurity to prevent unlawful intrusion into systems and the manipulation of data.

For Africa region, ITU on Tuesday says measures to prevent cybercrime are best in the Mauritius. It ranked Tanzania second, Ghana third, and Nigeria fourth in its assessment of countries precaution in the region.

Meanwhile, the number of people using the internet around the world has risen rapidly and is expected to double by 2030, when 90 per cent of the world population will be online.

Today, 3.5 billion people have access to the internet, a number expected to reach 7.5 billion by 2030, the ITU said.

Only 1 billion people were online in 2007, Now, 1 billion people have gone online for the first time since 2015.
