Chief Coach of Wikki Tourists FC of Bauchi, Mbwas Mangut, said on Wednesday that his priority now was to work on the psychology of his players for them to forget their early ouster from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) competition.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) report that a Sierra Leonean club side, Real Armed Forces FC, edged out Wikki Tourist on Sunday by 2-1 goals aggregate.
Fielding questions from newsmen in Bauchi on Wednesday after his team’s Professional League encounter with Shooting Stars FC of Ibadan, Mangut said his players needed to put the nasty experience behind them and concentrate on other club engagements.
“We have been talking to them to forget about the past and face the two competitions; the FA and Premier Leagues.
“These are competitions that can take us back to the continental, so we have been working on the psychologies of the players to get them back to business,” he said.
Speaking on their match with Shooting Stars which Wikki Tourists won by a lone goal, scored by Anyanwu Nnaemeka in the 78th minute, the coach said his boys played to instructions but could not convert chances created.
In his comment after the match, Chief Coach of Shooting Stars, Fatai Amoo, commended Wiiki for performing well.
“They deserve the victory because they worked hard to earn the full points; my players also tried but their effort was not good enough to salvage a point, so, we accept the defeat in good faith.
“The officiating was commendable; we have to appreciate the efforts of the League Management Committee (LMC) and the Referee Association,” he said. (NAN)
